Nafplio - Things to do & See
Move your mouse over the crosshairs on the map below to discover the Old Town...
Nafplio
Apart from the obvious sight-seeing of ancient sites, there is lots to do in the region. Swimming, hiking, skiing (on both snow and water!) and shopping are all well catered for...
Beaches

Argolida boasts four blue flag awarded beaches, and there are endless miles of coastline with secluded bays waiting to be discovered. A few highlights are:
- Karathona: Just outside Nafplion town, reached either by car past the fortress of Palamidi, or by foot along a coastal path, is the beautiful bay of Karathona. With a wide sandy beach, clear shallow waters and tree-lined shore it is very popular and worth a visit if you are in Nafplio.
- Tolo - Psilli Ammos: The beach at Tolo can become crowded in the height of summer, and when you see the view and the soft sand, it's easy to see why! A nearby alternative if it gets too busy is Plaka, which is not quite as picturesque but affords more space.
Eating Out
Nafplion's town has many tavernas to choose from. The Koutouki is reasonably priced and the atmosphere is very pleasant.
On a summer's evening it is hard to beat an evening meal at one of the tavernas on the beach at Vivari.
Shopping
With its proximity to Athens, the area is an increasingly popular weekend getaway, and there are many stylish boutiques to tempt the visiting Athenian and tourist alike. The old town of Nafplion in particular is worth visiting, with shops, bars, cafes and tavernas to suit all tastes.
Skiing

Less well known and smaller than the ski resort of Kalavrita is Mainalo, north of Tripoli and about an hour's drive from Nafplion, meaning that you can literally be on the slopes in the morning and on the beach in the afternoon.
If you prefer water, there is a waterski school at Tolo...
